Cooperative Housing Corporation, (CHC), is a not-for-profit organization that works to develop partnerships around the concept of affordable Shared Living Residences, (SLR), and services for older adults and some special needs populations. A SLR is a home in which individuals can live cost effectively and in a supportive environment where independence is enhanced through inter-dependence. Each resident has their own bedroom and bathroom as their private space, while the remainder of the home, living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry is shared as in a family situation.
CHC owns and manages seven shared living residences in Somerset County. CHC offers individuals and non-profits consulting services: in land acquisition and development; legal issues; funding sources and financial structuring; operation and management. CHC has the capability of providing a turn key operation, or developing a program to fit your needs and your pocketbook.
Independent living is a want-driven housing option, nursing care and assisted living is a need-driven housing environment, a SHARED LIVING RESIDENCE lies somewhere in-between. Assisting individuals and organizations in the development of affordable Shared Living Residences which allow older adults and some special needs populations to remain independent in a less structured living environment than a nursing home or an assisted living facility is one of CHC's primary goals.
